WORLD'S CHEAPEST WATER FILTER
It is no doubt that water is very important for life and it is running out day by day. 71% of Earth's surface is covered by Water in which drinking water is only around 2.5% and the rest is either in the ocean or contaminated. According to World Health Organization "Contaminated drinking water is estimated to cause 485 000 diarrhea deaths each year globally".With this innovation, humans can get pure water for the drink which will be helpful in increasing human life by reducing the risk of getting diseases like Typhoid, Dysentry, Hepatitis A, Salmonella, etc
Niranjan Karagi belongs to Belgaum, Karnataka made the smallest water filter in the world which costs just only 30rs which can filter up to 100 liters of water. Other water purifiers in markets are of very high price so that not everyone can afford it.
He got an idea from a scene in which few children drinking impure water at a government school playground situated in front of his house. Children were drinking water from a tap that was connected to an overhead tank containing impure water. From here got his motivation & idea to make the cheapest water filter in the world. Initially, He had no knowledge of water filters. So he started by making a prototype with a 3D printer. but the prototype wasn't working. Even he was running out of funds. So Deshpande Foundation gave him some financial support and the rest of the money was given by his parents. He used a product of high quality which could be easily available locally. So Initially he used cotton, activated charcoal, netted mesh, and a secret ingredient to make a water filter. This filter can be fit every bottle as well as every tap. It can filter up to 5 microns. He is still trying to making it better.
After the successful launch of NIRNAL WATER FILTER government appreciated his innovation and provide fund to NIRANJAN KARAGI. Using these funds NIRANJAN made more varients of this filter.
In the last two years, more than 2 lacks filters were sold. These filters were given to the Army, Government Schools, Private school, Indian CRPF commandos, INS Vikramaditya so that they can get clean and filtered water in remote areas.
Currently, NIRANJAN is trying to develop an Ocean Water filter that can make ocean water drinkable.
